Import and export

Bring it in.Take it out. Any time.

A whole Confluence space from its HTML export, with its page tree, images and files, or a folder of Markdown files. You see what will happen before anything is written. And everything goes back out as Word, Markdown or one ZIP.

[ 01 ] How it works

An import you can check first

  1. 01

    Export from where it is

Confluence's HTML export of a space (a ZIP up to 100 MB), or your Markdown files.

  2. 02

    Preview

Every page and what will happen to it: imported, or skipped because the space already has that title.

  3. 03

    Import as drafts

Pages land as drafts in the tree they had, with their images and files, so nothing goes live by accident.

  4. 04

    Review and publish

Links between imported pages point at the new pages; publish when the space is ready.

[ 02 ] In

From Confluence and Markdown

  • Confluence importPremium

A whole space from its HTML export: the page tree, images and attachments, and links between pages rewritten to the new ones.

  • Markdown import

Markdown files become pages, with the same preview and the same drafts-first rule.

  • Nothing overwritten

A page whose title already exists in the space is skipped, and its children hang from the nearest imported page above them.

  • Done with you

On a demo or during onboarding we run the first import with you on your own export.

[ 03 ] Out

Your content stays yours

  • Any page to Word or Markdown

From the page, whenever you like, unless an admin has limited downloads to admins.

  • The whole workspace, one ZIP

    Every page, for workspace admins.

  • Watermarked downloadsEnterprise

On Enterprise, a download can carry the reader's name, email and the time.

  • Stored as Markdown

Pages are kept as Markdown with a few extensions, so what you export is what we store.

[ 05 ] Questions

Asked before buying

Can we import from Notion, Google Docs or SharePoint?
Not directly. Markdown files import on every plan, and most tools export to Markdown; Confluence has its own importer on Premium and Enterprise.
What does a Confluence import not bring?
Comments and page history: each page arrives as one new draft. Info, note and warning macros become panels and expand, status and contents blocks come across; any other macro keeps its text and is named in the preview. Talk to us with a sample export before you move.
